The sights of the devastation in Joplin is jarring and humbling. My heart goes out to everyone affected by the storms: victims, survivors, first responders, and the nameless, faceless many helping to rebuild.
Here in Central Missouri you can help in a variety of ways. If you visit The Joplin, MO Tornado Recovery facebook page you can post updates about family and friends in Joplin, as well as connect with folks bringing help to the area. The Columbia branch of the American Red Cross is always a consistent place where you can lend your support. The need for type O blood is always present. Capital City Red Cross in Jefferson City is collecting buckets for Joplin relief. You can drop off 5 gallon buckets, work and latex gloves to Sam’s Tuxexo, 1st United Methodist Church on Monroe, Hyvee, JCMG and Jefferson City New Car Dealers. Text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10.
You can also text Joplin to 864833 to donate $10 dollars to the Heart of Missouri United Way Joplin Tornado Relief Fund. 100% of donations will go directly to Joplin’s United Way. You can go to this link or call 573-443-4523 for further donation opportunities.
As well, the Central Missouri Food Bank is accepting donations for Joplin relief.
