I would be remiss to not make note of how significant Friday night’s debate was, between John McCain and Barack Obama. More and more reports show that there are a significant number of Americans who admit that they cannot bring themselves to vote for a black man for President. That is– well, it’s a lot of things: sad, infuriating, destructive, and true. But Friday night, a gentleman whose father was from Kenya, took the stage to debate as a major party candidate for President of the United States of America.
Barack Obama was a year old when James Meredith entered the University of Mississippi on October 1, 1962 as the first black student ever at that institution.
We have a long way to go here in the United States. But we have come a long way, too.
