Academy Award Nominations

Well, as is the case every year, Hollywood awoke early to hear this year’s nominations. I was surprised by quite a few, and surprised by who didn’t get nominated. The most glaring missed nomination (of those I assumed would be)? Helena Bonham-Carter for Sweeney Todd.
Other than that most obvious misses, there are always head scratchers. For instance, Javier Bardem is on-screen as much as Julie Christie but he is nominated for Best Supporting Actor and she’s nominated for Best Actress. And speaking of missed chances– how do you NOT nominate Gordon Pinsent from Away from Her. A truly gorgeous performance that allowed Christie to do what she did. Oh well! Just another year at the Academy Awards.
